The Calanque de Sugiton: A Preserved Jewel

Located in Marseille, the Sugiton cove is a true little corner of paradise. To protect this exceptional site fromerosion and some tourist overcrowding, a visitor quota has been put in place. From now on, only 400 people can access this natural gem each day, guaranteeing a unique and preserved experience.

How to Book Your Visit

There reservation to visit the Sugiton cove, although free, is obligatory and must be done at least three days before the desired date, and until 6 p.m. the day before. Available booking dates for 2024 are as follows:

  • June 15 and 16
  • June 22 and 23
  • Every day from June 29 to September 1
  • September 7 and 8
  • September 14 and 15

Once the reservation has been made, a confirmation email will be sent to you. This email must be presented at the entrance to the cove and allows one or more entries on the same day. Note that reservations can be made for a group of up to five people, while children under 3 years old are not subject to this rule.

An Ecological Measure

This gauge was established from 2022 to protect the natural site from the harmful effects of the massive influx of visitors. Under the effect of repeated steps, the earth slides towards the beach, thus worsening theerosion and endangering the precious pine forest. The initiative proves effective, and the measure is extended until 2027.

Other Environmental Precautions in Marseille

To complete this measure, the municipality of Marseille has also taken other precautions to preserve its famous coves. Access to the coves of Morgiou, Sormiou and Callelongue is prohibited for motor vehicles until September 30. This helps reduce nuisance and protect these extraordinary landscapes.
